Most of the trees are 2-3 years old.
You may get one or two fruits after one year, but we recommend that you remove those fruits to give the tree energy into establishing itself. After about 3 years, trees should start giving fruit.
Yes. A couple of hours of shade is ok, but most fruit trees need full sun in order to produce sweet fruit. Raspberries are the only fruit we sell that can be grown in shade.

When you receive the tree, you can soak the roots in water for a couple hours or up to `1 day. If you cannot plant the tree right away, you can temporarily plant the tree in a container or trench. This is called heeling in. Many people say to plant the tree in native soil, but we have gotten the best results by mixing compost into the hole and then mulching with wood chips. If your soil is clay or it doesn't drain well, plant on a mound.
Chill hours are the number of hours during the winter below 45 degrees F. For example Sacramento gets 600-700 on average while some places in Southern California might get less than 100. If a tree doesn't get enough chill hours, it may have small fruit, reduced or no yield or the fruit may lack the desired flavor or sweetness. That being said, some people have success growing some supposedly high chill varieties in low chill climates.
